AllSouth Lightning Protection Inc. has partnered with Miller Electric Company to help protect the new Orlando Health Watson Clinic hospital from lightning-related damage as the massive healthcare project nears completion.

The new $166 million, 302-bed hospital represents one of the largest hospital capital investments made by Orlando Health and is expected to open in June 2026. The facility will feature 69 emergency beds, 18 intensive care beds, 11 operating rooms, four cardiac suites, a birthing center with eight labor and delivery rooms, and a neonatal intensive care unit scheduled to debut shortly after opening.

With Florida recognized as the lightning capital of the United States, protecting critical healthcare infrastructure from direct lightning strikes and surge-related damage is a major priority. Hospitals rely on uninterrupted power and secure electrical systems to support life-safety equipment, emergency services, operating rooms, patient monitoring systems, and communications. A major lightning event without proper protection can lead to catastrophic electrical failures, equipment damage, fires, and dangerous interruptions to patient care.

Working alongside @Miller Electric, AllSouth Lightning Protection designed and installed a complete Class II Faraday lightning protection system with a counterpoise grounding network to help protect the hospital from direct lightning strikes and safely dissipate lightning energy into the earth. The system was engineered to help ensure the facility’s critical electrical infrastructure remains secure and operational during Florida’s severe storm activity.
